Bell & Ross BR-X1 Black Titanium Chronograph

replica Bell & Ross watches has been pushing them out of the park lately with several vintage-inspired watches that have really caught on, such as the new Vintage Collection and some derivatives like the Vintage V2-92 & V2-94 Garde-Cotes and the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the BR126 Renault movement. Today, however, we’re shifting gears and experimenting with one of the brand’s more forward-looking models; the BR-X1 Black Titanium Chronograph, a softer, more “monochrome” version of the bold chronograph we’ve tested here.

Bell & Ross BR-X1 Black Titanium Chronograph

The BR-X1 series is part of the French brand’s extensive collection of instruments, which debuted three years ago with the aim of bringing the battle to brands such as Hublot King Power and Audermars Piguet Royal Oak. Given that the collection now boasts 17 different models, including the excellent BR-X1 chronograph tourbillon single-pusher, I can say with certainty that it has done the job well. It’s very bold, very technical, very eye-catching in action, and has a modular architecture that allows for several different versions. A very monochromatic new style is coming.

The BR-X1 Black Titanium Chronograph is one of the latest models to be unveiled at Baselworld 2017 earlier this year. This unique 45mm grade 5 titanium square case with a round bezel is light and comfortable on the wrist with a design inspired by aviation instruments. The black ceramic strap protects the case from accidental knocks and complements the overall invisible look of the watch with a black rubber strap. The ergonomically designed rocker pushers are made of the same ceramic material and have rubber bushings for a good grip, even with gloves.

The BR-X1 Black Titanium Chronograph is one of the latest models to be unveiled at Baselworld 2017 earlier this year.

The dial is what really sets the BR-X1 black titanium chronograph and all BR-X1 models apart. To be more precise, the transparent sapphire plate sits above the skeletonized movement and serves as the dial. Despite the initial impression that it was barely there, a closer inspection revealed that there was actually a lot going on. First, the logo, inscription, and second hand index (3 points) at the second hand are printed directly on this sapphire disc in gunmetal silver. At six o’clock there is a small hole for the date display, while at nine o’clock there is a 30-minute timer for the passing minutes, with the bezel on the outside in the same gunmetal silver color.

The hour and minute hands are displayed centrally via the metal skeletonized Superluminova hour and minute hands, as are the chronograph seconds hands. On the periphery of the dial, there is a minute scale recorded on a brushed ring, topped by a Superluminova filled hour marker with metal appliqué, representing the hours. These make the appearance of floating on the rest of the dial look deep. The completion chronograph indicates the inner flange with tachymeter scale. In keeping with the super stealth style, the sapphire crystal at the top is grey. Arguably not the clearest of chronographs, but it does look cool. I particularly like the matte brushed look of the titanium and metal inserts on the dial, which contrast with the black of the ceramic strap.

Inside is the self-winding movement BR-CAL.313, whose inner workings are visible on the dial side.

Inside is the self-winding movement BR-CAL.313, whose inner workings are visible on the dial side. The chronograph module was created specifically by Dubois Depraz and its base is most likely an ETA movement or ETA movement – but, here, we’re talking about a very high-end version of that movement, not the classic movement in an entry-level watch. To maximize visual appeal, the movement has been carefully designed to display gears, levers and pinions, and all parts on the dial side should be as open as possible. The central bridge is shaped like an X and sapphire dial, allowing you to watch the timer start when you press the button. The end result of the module is good, with round textures on the motherboard, straight textures on the chronograph lever, sandblasted and DLC coated bridges, and X bridges in the shape of a rising sun.

The BR-X1 black titanium chronograph is worn on a braided black rubber strap with a pin buckle, and even though I felt a little big, it was comfortable. But remember, this is a watch designed to make a statement, and even if you go with the new stealth color scheme, don’t wear it if you don’t want to draw attention to yourself.

Bell & Ross Expands BR03-92 Diver Series

A year ago, replica Bell & Ross watches surprised us with one of the coolest watches, the BR03-92 Diver (first released in black). However, it’s not an easy task, as cramming all the code of a real dive watch into a square case can sound tricky. However, it was a success and the results were very pleasing. At Baselworld 2018, the brand launched the new Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver Blue and Bronze versions, creating a collection around divers.

At Baselworld 2018, the brand launched the new Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver Blue and Bronze versions, creating a collection around divers.

No need to make adjustments over and over again. Most watch enthusiasts will recognize the iconic Bell & Ross “square inner circle” shape. The case has become an iconic design for the brand, with dozens of variants of the bag appearing over the past 12 years. However, most (if not all) are based on aviation or military themes, which is understandable since the shape is based on the cockpit dashboard of a fighter. So when Bell & Ross announced its first dive watch – soon to be placed in a square case at Baselworld 2017 – we were skeptical. For most of us, a dive watch must be round simply because of its rotating bezel. But… once we saw the metal watch, the Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver convinced us that it was one of the best B&R creations in recent memory.

For 2018, Bell & Ross has followed the trend of success with the Black BR03-92 model with two new releases. The first is the Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver Blue, which is basically a color update. The second is Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver Bronze, a material update. The basic values remain the same with only small changes. As a result, we found the same 42mm x 42mm case with the same shape as the rest of the BR03 series. Since its launch, its shape has evolved slightly. Initially very basic, it has been successful over the years in terms of elegance and detail, with the addition of a round frosted surface at the top, polished screws and polished bevels on the outside – all of which bring the case to life and provide a more luxurious feel.

For 2018, Bell & Ross has followed the trend of success with the Black BR03-92 model with two new releases.

Even though they do show new colors, the new version of the Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver still follows the recipe of the Diver Black model. The dial wraps around a traditional 60-minute unidirectional bezel and a crown with screws, both coated with rubber for better grip and highly protected on both sides from vibrations. The watch is larger and very eye-catching on the wrist (due to its larger than 42mm round surface area), but is comfortable due to the short lugs. Overall, the integration of the diving elements has been well executed. Both models have cases that are water resistant to 300m, and the watch complies with ISO 6425 – the precise standard that defines a true dive watch (including water resistance to a minimum depth of 100m, unidirectional rotating bezel and scale, operating indicators and illuminated markers, clear and easy to read in the dark, shock/anti-magnetic protection).

And these new releases? The first, the Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver Blue, underwent a wardrobe change from black to blue, with a blue dial, bezel and strap. Both the aluminum dial and dial have frosted, grainy surfaces, while the blue (an easy but always pleasing choice for a dive watch) comes in moderate doses. The hands and pointer are painted with white luminescent lacquer, which, combined with blue tones, gives the new version a technical, modern look that suits the brand. The second evolution comes from the yellow accent, replacing the orange accent in the black version. Yellow and orange usually disappear quickly underwater, so the most important moment is visible.

the Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver Blue, underwent a wardrobe change from black to blue .

The second model, the Bell & Ross BR03-92 Diver Bronze, is a deeper revision of that model, as the colors and materials are updated, and finally the overall style of the watch. In this version, the case is made of solid bronze, or rather of CuSn8 bronze – an alloy with an 8% tin content, one of the most corrosion-resistant bronze alloys on the market, with excellent mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance (useful for dive watches in salt water…) As with the usual bronze watches, you have to take into account that the model shown here is new, but it will gradually turn green over time. Depending on the environment in which it is located, the bronze-colored case will acquire a unique shade over the years. The gold-plated face color you see here will not last, and the watch will become darker and less shiny.

Some differences can also be seen on this BR03-92 Diver bronze, a unidirectional bezel that is now made of solid bronze – no aluminum insert. The 60-minute scale is engraved in black. To complement the case, the frosted black dial is fitted with gilt hour-markers and hands.

Bell & Ross BR-01 Skull and Bones

replica Bell & Ross watches is known for its Skull-style watches. It all started with the 2009 BR-01 Skull, followed by 3 other watches (see some of them here and here). For those who are still in doubt about the relevance of such watches in the B&R collection, you will find that the connection to the military origins of the brand is not far off. Following in the footsteps of this Skull watch trend, Bell & Ross has introduced its fifth iteration, the new BR-01 Laughing Skull, and the surprises don’t end there.

the new BR-01 Laughing Skull, and the surprises don’t end there.

When Bell & Ross uses the Skull symbol, it’s easy to think of it as an artifact. However, this strongly military-inspired brand is more than a deception. This symbol has been used for centuries, especially by pirates. Later, the army would use the skulls for two reasons: to scare off the enemy and to remind them of their vulnerability. The skull is a recurring symbol of various special forces, and Bellows thought it would be a good inspiration for some of their watches – not only by having them printed on simple round dials, but also by shaping the dial into a skull.

The Parisian brand has released four Skull watches, plus a unique watch from Only Only Watch, all based on the large BR-01 case. MONOCHROME has reviewed two of them here – the BR-01 Skull Bronze and the BR-01 Burning Skull with a “tattoo style” case. All of these are definitely bold pieces, with fairly proportioned cases and a naturally exuberant style. Like it or not, but these watches make a great impression. And, the brand’s latest Skull creation is no slouch.

The Parisian brand has released four Skull watches, plus a unique watch from Only Only Watch .

The new Bell & Ross BR-01 Laughing Skull still uses the same basic principles as the rest of the line: the BR-01 case, meaning a 46mm x 46mm square case with the same dial as the skull and crossbones around the case. The shell has 4 screws, a minute track engraved into the surface of the skull and a beautifully decorated shell. For this edition, Bell & Ross has chosen to use micro-sprayed steel to give the case a matte finish and to engrave the case with a deep “Clous de Paris” pattern, which is usually used on traditional guilloche dials, but which has been reshaped here. More modern.

There’s no doubt about the feel on the wrist… The Bell & Ross BR-01 Laughing Skull is characterful in both its case and appearance. A true “hate or love” work. The skeleton face used in this watch is very close to the skeleton face already used in Burning Skull watches, with 3D effects and traditional sword-shaped hands. However, apply it here to the top of the skeletal movement. Indeed, this is the main novelty here… Previously, Bell & Ross’s Skull watches (at least, the ones without the tourbillon) were powered by ETA / Sellita movements. It’s powered by something special.

Inside the Bell & Ross BR-01, the Laughing Skull is the brand’s first exclusive movement .

Inside the Bell & Ross BR-01, the Laughing Skull is the brand’s first exclusive movement, which has been developed in-house for this watch and its special shape. It is skeletal in shape, so the mechanism fits perfectly into the shell. In an extension of the four bones, four bridges hold the motherboard to the case and together form a component that floats in the center of the watch. The movement has a black coating and a beveled sandblasted finish. The decor is modern and delightful.

The second and main surprise of this watch is the automaton found on the skull. When winding (and therefore when the barrel is loose), the chin of the skull moves up and down, opening and closing, as if to mock you. Take a look at the video at the top of this article to see this automaton in action. Absolutely useless, but cool looking, it’s an unexpected move by Bell & Ross to add the “out of the box” style of the BR-01 Laughing Skull.

Summer with Bell & Ross BR 03-92 – Diver Bronze (And Bronze Patina in Action)

A year ago, replica Bell & Ross watches launched the BR 03-92 Diver, which is the brand’s representative dive watch. This isn’t the first time B&R has produced watches to explore the deep blue ocean – some of the earliest models were dive watches (including the impressive Hydromax 11,000m) – and this new watch is the first to combine the iconic square case with a proper case. Diving capabilities. It’s completely different from the rest of the crowd, and at the same time genuinely familiar, which is an immediate success. This year, 2 new versions have been added to the collection, in blue or bronze. I spent the summer with the latter and it was our quest.

Summer with Bell & Ross BR 03-92 – Diver Bronze (And Bronze Patina in Action)

The dive watch category is undoubtedly one of the most coveted and boasts some of the most iconic models: the Submariner, Seamaster, Fifty Fathoms, 62Mas, Luminor and more. On the other hand, this category is governed by strict rules, thus creating a uniformity in the market. Reason: ISO 6425 standard for dive meters, which defines the test standards and functions applicable to dive meters. These standards cover several aspects of the watch, including the unidirectional bezel, the dial and its markings, the display, the reliability or resistance of the watch and its movement. These standards guarantee minimum requirements for mechanical diving meters, but they also impose boundaries that promote strong similarities between models.

While still complying with ISO 6425, Bell & Ross decided to bring something different to the dive watch market – at least in terms of watch shape. The idea was to combine the iconic square case (inspired by the BR 01, which was a military/pilot watch designed with the dashboard instruments of a fighter jet in mind) with the requirements of a dive watch that required, for example, a unidirectional rotating baffle. The first black version of the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver is surprisingly fresh and convincing. Following this successful version, the Parisian brand now offers two new versions: one with a dark blue dial, bezel and strap, and the other with a full bronze case.

The first black version of the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver is surprisingly fresh and convincing.

How about a bronze version of the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver? Well, basically, it’s the same as the other two steel watches released by the brand, but with slightly different case materials and dials. In short, it has the same specifications and technical aspects. However, the bronze case means a completely different look – in fact, they have several different looks since you change the look of the watch as you wear it (more on that later).

Since the brand discontinued the BR 02 a few years ago, there are no suitable dive watches in the collection. Understanding the history of the brand and some of its previous watches has created a gap in the brand’s offerings. So Bell & Ross decided to introduce this BR 03-92 Diver, which mixes a square case with a rotating bezel for a dive watch. It’s not easy to do on paper, and we were rather skeptical until we saw a metal watch. But the results are raw, finished and different enough. In total, Bell and Ross have achieved a balanced balance between the requirements of ISO 6425 and its iconic design.

To make the watch a true diver and 300 times more water resistant, the case has been reinforced with a thicker back (2.80mm for the BR 03-92 diver and 1.80mm for the BR 03-92 stainless steel dial).

The design of the BR 03-92 diver’s case is based on the same “square inner circle” concept found on most military components of the brand. The only real difference is the integration of the proportions and the raised unidirectional bezel around the dial – once you’re done with the watch, it feels natural. This means that even though the watch has nothing to do with the usual military/pilot inspiration, it retains the brand’s signature look and can fit perfectly into the rest of the collection.

A soft iron cage has been added to increase its resistance to magnetic fields (another ISO 6425 requirement). The sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating is impressive at 2.85 mm thick, while the classic steel BR 03-92 is 1.50 mm thick. These enhanced protection features plus the rotating bezel increase the overall thickness of the watch, but to a reasonable level (less than 13mm).

Bell & Ross Retro Model – Army Green

While replica Bell & Ross watches is focusing on launching its luxury sports watch BR05 series in 2019 (although other watches have also been launched), 2020 will focus on the so-called “core series.” This means going back to the basics and thinking about musical instruments or antique collections with military or aviation inspired pieces, and flying instruments. In this spirit, Bell & Ross has launched three new watches that evoke the three realms of its expression: land, air and sea. Meet the new Bell & Ross Vintage models, BR V2-92 Army Green, BR V2-93 GMT Blue and BR V2-94 Aeronavale Bronze.

While Bell & Ross is focusing on launching its luxury sports watch BR05 series in 2019 .

Bell & Ross is first and foremost a brand inspired by the military world, dedicated to navigational tool watches. When Carlos Rosillo and Bruno Belamich introduced the brand back in 1992, its main focus was on making powerful timepieces (then made by Sinn) with a background in aviation and special forces. The real turning point came in 2005 when Bell & Ross launched the BR01, a watch that would define the brand for the next decade, with its iconic “square inner circle” design inspired by vintage dashboard instruments. Of course, the brand has recently shifted to more urban and modern designs, especially the BR05, although its design is still very much B&R focused.

The real turning point came in 2005 when Bell & Ross launched the BR01, a watch that would define the brand for the next decade .

However, don’t think Bell & Ross has forgotten its roots. The BR05 is an essential development for brands that want to grow, however, the core range is still inspired by flying and military tools – which will be a focus for 2020 as the brand launches new products from its Vintage range. The BR01 and BR03 models can be easily identified by their square cases, while the Vintage V1 and V2 watches are the brand’s pursuit of more classic watches with round cases and more “traditional” codes. But as you will see with the new BR V2-92 Army Green, BR V2-93 GMT Blue and BR V2-94 Aeronavale Bronze, the aviation and military inspiration remains.

The watch also has a screw-in crown and is water resistant to 100m.

The first of the three new watches is a classic Bell & Ross theme with plenty of military detail. It’s based on the three-handed BR V2-92, a larger version with an external bezel, which we’ve studied in several versions, such as the Steel Heritage or its closest sister, the Military Beige.

Without changing the technical details or specifications, Bell & Ross has introduced a new version of its khaki green dial and LUM series of large Arabic numerals, as well as a green Super-LumiNova C3. These numerals have evolved over time and are now framed in black and have greater depth. In addition, the minutes have been simplified to a railroad style, and the pointers retain the classic design of the B&R pilots. The date is positioned at 4:30 (the text is in black in the final version).

As for the rest, the BR V2-92 Army Green case still measures 41mm with shorter lugs and a protected crown. It has a satin and polished finish and a two-way bezel on an anodized black aluminum insert with a 60-minute scale. Overall a very simple but cool design that works even better with the khaki and black canvas “NATO Stretch” strap made of parachute straps, provided by our friend Erika of Erikasoriginals. Steel bracelets with folding clasps are also available.

The self-winding BR-CAL.302 (based on the Sellita SW 300-1) powers this watch, a well known and reliable movement with a 42-hour power reserve and beating at 4Hz. It can be seen through the sapphire back cover. The watch also has a screw-in crown and is water resistant to 100m.

Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Gray LUM

Inspired by the dashboard flying tool…that one statement alone easily defines most of replica Bell & Ross watches ideas. Day or night, we talk about the design of the watch itself, its functionality or the quest for optimal readability. The latter is particularly important today, as there is a new watch in the LUM collection. It is called “GREY LUM” and follows the HOROLUM, HOROLUM and FULL LUM in a series of watches that focus on display quality. But before we take a closer look at this cool series, let’s introduce the new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 GREY LUM.

The latter is particularly important for today’s matter because there’s a new watch in the LUM collection.

If the first three models in the LUM series are clearly on the military/tool side, then this new GREY LUM wants to adapt its concept to a more urban style – without forgetting its main rationale and LUM membership. In contrast to HOROLUM, HOROLUM and FULL LUM, which are all micro-blasted in steel or ceramic (and therefore anti-reflective), the new GREY LUM has an industrial design and monochromatic appearance that is more civilian than military DNA.
The case retains the iconic “round within a square” shape, flanked by four functional screws (one in each corner), and is easily inspired by the dashboard instruments of older jet fighters. As with all models in the BR 03 sub-series, it is now almost as large as the entire B&R catalogue, but still comfortable at 42mm x 42mm (46mm for the iconic BR 01). The case of the BR 03-92 GREY LUM is made of stainless steel and displays a satin polished surface on the sides of the case and bezel, highlighted by a polished bevel. This adds a more luxurious, less-tooled touch to the watch – more suitable for everyday wear.

As with all models in the BR 03 sub-series, it is now almost as large as the entire B&R catalogue, but still comfortable at 42mm x 42mm (46mm for the iconic BR 01).

During the day, the dial of the BR 03-92 GREY LUM is anthracite grey with a sun-brushed pattern painted on it. Combined with the contrasting face of the case and the frosted, grey-green leather strap with a smooth texture, it makes for a delightful watch without losing its elegance – at least for B&R. The display is classic with the H-M-S in the middle and the date is 4h30 in the circular window. The pointer and indexing are in C3 gloss, with a cream color that contrasts with a dark gray background.

But where this watch really shines is at night. Because like the rest of the LUM series, the new BR 03-92 GREY LUM is all about photoluminescence and nighttime clarity. As mentioned earlier, all index fingers and pointers are coated with Super-LumiNova C3, known for its unparalleled brightness – it’s the brightest version of the SLN, phosphorescent for the longest time (up to 8 hours) and the fastest charge. Turn off the lights and you get a super clear watch that doesn’t look misaligned on the driver’s wrist.

The new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 GREY LUM (ref. BR0392-GC3-ST / SCA) will be available in retailers, official stores and e-commerce in February 2020.

Like all models in the collection, the new BR 03-92 GREY LUM is powered by a caliber BR-CAL.302 movement, the proven Sellita SW300, an automatic movement known for its reliability and outstanding precision. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a 42-hour power reserve. It is concealed under a plain steel bottom cover and is water resistant to 100m.

The new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 GREY LUM (ref. BR0392-GC3-ST / SCA) will be available in retailers, official stores and e-commerce in February 2020. It comes with an extra super stretchy black synthetic strap and a tool for replacing it.
